Ludo’s Randonneur

Ludo lives in the rainy north of Germany and wants to use this bike for long and short trips but also as a day-to-day bike. So besides the Honjo mudguards and SON (front) / Supernova (rear) lights necessary in northern climates there are plenty of luggage rack mounts and a dynamo powered charger (Forumslader) is integrated in the fork steerer.

The frame is built from light and comfortable Columbus Zona tubes and for the disc brake fork I used Reynolds 631 blades specifically made for this type of brake. Ludo wanted to have cable enacted disc brakes, in this case the JuinTech F1 hybrid brakes, therefore the GRX transmission is controlled by Shimano 105 levers. The drive train is completed by a White Industries crankset with VBC double chainrings to get exactly the range of gears Ludo wanted.

The wheels are built by Patrick from FNX Wheels : Velocity Aileron polished rims, Hope Pro5 in the rear and a SON 28 hub in the front with Panaracer Gravel King 650x42b tires. The finishing kit is Ritchey Classic to keep things shiny. And to top it off, a beautifully crafted Idéale saddle with matching Berthoud leather bar tape.

For the first trip to take the bike from Roubaix to its new home Hamburg, we went for the light travel set up with TimTas U-loop bags in the front and rear. The system has evolved with an even more rigid 3 point fixture for the front bags

The powder coat paint job is made in house in “Seattle Gold” (by prismatic powders), inspired by an old randonneur bike in Ludo’s possession.
